The Inland Haven Program provides care for residents with beginning to intermediate stages of Alzheimer disease. Care is provided in a respectful way in order to maintain the resident's dignity. The facility is licensed by the Department of Social Services to provide "Assisted Living" for 23 residents. This means that care and supervision including assistance with many activities of daily living such as dressing and bathing and minor nursing care are available. Extensive, skilled or 24 hour nursing care is not provided.

All staff members receive special training in the care of residents with dementia. This training includes how to handle difficult behaviors such as wandering and frustration. A Registered Nurse will oversee the program. Activity directors will be on the unit eight hours per day. Certified Nurses Assistants/Activity Aids provide care and participate in activities 24 hours per day. The activity program is specially designed to meet the needs of those with dementia. Activities of daily living such as applying makeup are treated as an "activity" in which the residents will be encouraged to participate and enjoy. Daily mandatory routines are minimized as much as possible to allow the residents to maintain their individuality. A security system is in place to ensure the safety of the residents and prevent wandering away from the grounds. There are secure outside areas for the residents to enjoy. There are circular walking paths that reduce the frustration of walking into a dead end. A number of "life stations" allow the residents to feel that they are in a familiar environment. Memory boxes, in which personal items can be placed, to guide the resident back to their room. There are five areas to conduct activities allowing the activity groups to remain small and more personalized. The activity area includes a kitchen where the residents can be involved in cooking activities.

All residents rooms are private. This allows the residents to personally decorate the room and maintain their privacy. Each room has a bed, nightstand, television connection, and bathroom. Residents are allowed to bring in personal furniture. Our 50 channel premium television lineup is now included in our daily rate.

The Adult Day Care service provides daily or intermittent care and supervision for adult residents. This provides a break for the regular caregivers to attend to their daily chores, work, and other tasks. The Day Care is located within the Inland Haven area and includes an activity area, rest area, restroom and outside area. The day care residents are integrated into and encouraged to participate in the daily life and activities provided at Inland Haven.
